Traditionally, if a business needed any printing to be done – invoice books, business cards, advertising flyers – they had to draw up a design (or find someone to do it for them, usually for a fixed fee), find a hand print shop, and put in an order for so many of the item. Today, the printing world has been transformed by web to print services, a new, streamlined and more economical way of printing in bulk.

What Is Web To Print

Web to print is an online service in which businesses can source templates and designs, choosing from a huge array of options to put together the ideal image for their needs. Templates include everything from menus to business cards – anything and everything that might be needed to be printed by a company in order to maximise visibility and profits.

Essentially, a business looking to use web to print will access the vast file of templates on what is called a storefront. They may need to sign up and perhaps pay a small fee to access private storefronts’ databases. They can browse through the various categories on offer: for example, a DJ looking to print business cards will be drawn to shiny or glittery designs on a dark background, for example, while a lawyer might prefer a matte cream card with a very muted font used for his details: each creating a unique impression designed to attract customers or clients.

Who can use web to print services?

Just about any business can use web to print services. As mentioned above, business cards are a popular item, and some lines of business (lawyers, insurance brokers and so on) will hand out hundreds of cards per week. Other examples could be charities announcing their new mission statement or appealing for donations, either of cash or of unwanted items. A restaurant or café can quickly and easily tweak their menu, changing prices, adding or removing items from the bill of fare, or even introducing new specials. Estate agents can print out images and details of properties on their books, keeping them up to date and fresh to attract buyers or renters, while schools can make their walls look fantastic with progress charts, cheerful pictures and inspirational quotes.

How does it work?

It is very simple. The customer chooses their template and their desired colours. They add images and text as needed, and save the file. The web to print software automatically saves the file in a high-resolution format that will be recognised by most printers, whether they are industrial or domestic. Then, when the customer is ready for their paperwork, they can either print it out themselves, or they can find a handy print shop who has a commercial quality printer, and get the printing done for them. The beauty of web to print is that the customer can use and reuse the file as often as they like – meaning that the image or document will very quickly pay for itself!
